Dr. Mironda Williams, Dr. Deanna Guthrie, and Dr. Karen Greene of Rosa Gynecology returned to WSB Radio’s “The Weekly Check-Up” on September 27th with guest host Ashley Frasca for an empowering conversation on healthy aging for women.
Rather than viewing aging through a negative lens, the physicians reframed it as a privilege and shifted the focus toward longevity, balance, and intentional living. They also shared how Rosa Gynecology leads by example—transitioning to a four-day workweek to protect the long-term well-being and personal longevity of both physicians and staff, while modeling for patients the importance of enjoying the present moment.
During the two-hour discussion, the doctors broke down actionable daily habits, emotional wellness strategies, and essential medical care tips to help women thrive at every stage of life:
Daily Habits for Longevity: The physicians shared their top recommendation for women as they get older—carving out dedicated space for self-care. Dr. Guthrie emphasized finding that “one thing” just for you, Dr. Greene highlighted exercise as an act of self-care, and Dr. Williams stressed the importance of daily stretching to give our bodies time to restore.
Navigating the Emotional & Mental Side of Aging: Addressing common life transitions like becoming an empty nester, the doctors encouraged women to focus on how they actually feel rather than fighting against age. They highlighted the importance of future-thinking, combating isolation by intentionally building community, and “choosing your normal” by embracing and honoring the journey that brought you where you are now.
Preventative Care & Stronger Bodies: The team emphasized that aging gracefully requires continued care. They discussed the importance of ongoing annual gynecologic exams (noting that while Pap smears can often stop at age 65 if results have consistently been normal, annual pelvic exams remain essential), as well as colonoscopies, mammograms, and proactive bone health management starting in your 50s. They also answered patient questions on managing elevated cortisol levels through movement, strength training, and sleep, as well as managing urine leakage and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
The 5 Pillars of Longevity: To wrap up the episode, the doctors outlined five pillars for lifelong health:
- Movement: “Motion is lotion” for your joints and overall vitality.
- Nutrition: Fueling your body with a well-balanced diet.
- Sleep: Prioritizing consistent, restful sleep for crucial cellular repair.
- Stress Reduction: Actively managing chronic stress through breaks and professional support.
- Staying Socially Connected: Fostering community and relationships for emotional well-being.
