As Rosa Gynecology celebrates 40 years of providing exceptional integrated gynecological care, patient Donna Dougherty’s story stands out as a testament to the practice’s commitment to those it serves.
Dougherty’s journey with Rosa Gynecology began more than 30 years ago when her longtime gynecologist retired. In search of a recommendation, she turned to a friend who spoke highly of Dr. Rose Marie Schultz, the practice’s founder.
“My former gynecologists were all male,” Dougherty says, “and while they were all great, it was comforting to receive care from a female physician. Dr. Schultz’s understanding of women’s health on a personal level made a difference.”
Dougherty immediately connected with Dr. Schultz and found a safe space to openly discuss her health. “It was a refreshing change,” she explains. “As a woman, Dr. Schultz made me feel comfortable and understood. We clicked right away and even discovered we had mutual friends.”
When Dougherty discovered she was pregnant shortly after becoming Dr. Schultz’s patient, the support she received was invaluable.
“One of the most memorable moments in my journey with Rosa Gynecology was when Dr. Schultz delivered my daughter,” Dougherty says. “She was as happy as I was, and that meant the world to me.”
During her postpartum period, Dougherty appreciated Dr. Schultz’s medical care as well as her empathy and support.
“She never made me feel ashamed of my emotions,” says Dougherty. “Instead she helped me understand postpartum-depression and encouraged me to prioritize my well-being. The greatest gift she gave me, other than delivering my healthy child, was helping me realize that I would be a better mother by taking care of myself and prioritizing my health.”
Dr. Schultz not only provided care for Dougherty but also for another member of her family. “She helped my mother through endometrial cancer, catching it early and referring her to a specialist,” she says. “It was so special that my mother and I could both receive care from her.”
Over the years, Dougherty has witnessed Rosa Gynecology evolve while maintaining its core values. “I’ve seen them grow, but they’ve always stayed committed to providing the best care possible,” says Dougherty. “It still feels like a close-knit, family-oriented practice rather than a sterile clinic.”
Even as Dr. Schultz retired and Dougherty transitioned to Dr. Karen Greene, compassion and care remained. “Dr. Greene continues to make me feel valued and seen, using the same personal approach I experienced with Dr. Schultz,” explains Dougherty.
Rosa Gynecology’s patient-centered approach and resources have encouraged Dougherty to prioritize her health. “Dr. Schultz and Dr. Greene have not just been my doctors, but they are my friends,” she says. “Rosa Gynecology is a place where I feel understood, valued, and cared for in every way possible.”
